“The News” Pakistan website HACKED!

Yep, on Eid day today, The News International (The Jang Group) http://thenews.com.pk website got hacked. All the news titles and stories were replaced with “Benazir fucked by PML” title all over the site. I am sure this will get fixed soon so I took the screen shot just in case if you missed the live hacked site.

By the looks of it, technically this is a classic example of hacking into the database. It wasn’t the website itself that got hacked, its just that the hacker was able to access The News database and ran a script to replace all the news headers and body fields with the phrase of his choice. In an event the hacker had cracked open the hosting webserver, he/she would have defaced the site too, which wasn’t the case. So this tells me that their database is either not too secure, or someone who works there has shared the database credentialls with someone to do this deed. Ex-Employee? Contractor? Who knows….? The deal is that this got done. If The News IT are smart they should be able to track back through accessor’s Network IPs etc. But if the hacker is really smart and has used IP spoofing, then I guess its just pointless. Lets see what “The News” or Geo TV has to say about this if anything.
