Excuse me Qazi Hussain?

April 21, 2009

Qazi Hussain AhmedThe article by Qazi Hussain Ahmed published April 20th, 2009 titled “Islamisation: cure of all evilsis full of presumptions, blame and irony. I have a few questions for Qazi Hussain Ahmed:

  1. You blame ruling elite for most of Pakistan’s ills. How do you categorize yourself? Aren’t you one of them?
  2. You blame the West for all the ills in Pakistan today, then why did you send your son to Boston University, USA for education? Isn’t this hypocritical and almost insincere on your part? Didn’t you just pull the “Ruling Elite” stunt here? “Do as I say, not as I do”.
  3. When you talk about “Islamization: cure of all evils”, what version of Islam are you talking about? Where is the Ijtehad committee and if there is one what sect of Islam influences it?
  4. How do you recommend we will integrate this Islamized country into the global system? After all we will have to survive with the world. I suppose you don’t expect Pakistan to be another isolated country just like North Korea?
  5. Can you stomach and foresee the freedoms for minorities living in Pakistan? Would they have to stick to Islamic rule or can they be offered their own version of laws based on their belief?
  6. Can humans in general living in Pakistan be respected? Can we promise not to blow up Internet Cafes, enforce certain fashion guidelines, etc?
  7. Would Non-Muslims be allowed to invest in Pakistan? Does your version of Islam acknowledge science and technology, modern developments, applying of science for betterment of humanity?
  8. You obviously are not a big fan of British values, culture and the ENGLISH language. I swear I read your article in English. Does that make you a victim of the past? You rather have us learn German? If Hitler had conquered the world, I am assuming you would have problem with German too?
  9. Pakistan was NOT made for Islam. Where did you get that idea from? Does Islam need a country? This is plain bogus claim! Pakistan was created for several reasons; one being that the people of this land can freely practice their religions and beliefs without any dominant influence and bigotry. So please do not confuse the actual ideology with your convenient wishful one.
  10. A person who didn’t speak the language of the land, did not practice the religion as per Islamic rituals and was fully integrated into all things Britain carved out Pakistan and gave it the legal status of a state, yes that was Mohammad Ali Jinnah. And now you have the audacity to propose hijacking of Pakistan?

The “Ruling Elite” does not exist. Our generation calls them “Coward Digressers”, so do not flatter “them” and yourselves. Get in touch with reality. People of Pakistan want law and order, sustained economic growth, human development, mutual respect, proper and good education, awareness and being at par with the developed world. They could care less about your proposed cure. Let’s not dwell in the past, rather learn from the experiences and carve out a workable solution for the State.

If you insist for your cure to occur it would be nice to see all of Qazis, Sufis, Mullahs and what not to sort out and agree on one thing first before going about implementing half baked vision. Good luck!
